How is it made?
Steel Billets are manufactured by pouring liquid metal through a continuous casting machine. After casting in the desired cross-section, they are then subject to atmospheric cooling, post which they can transported to the customer.
Difference between Blooms and Billets
Billets and Blooms may most probably look similar, and yes, the manufacturing process is also the same. But there are a few differences in-between them.
- Cross-sections:
Billets have a square cross-section area whose area is less than 36 sq. Inches whereas the Blooms may come in both square and rectangular sections and whose area should always be more than 36 sq. Inches.
- Utilization and Operations:
As dimensions suggest, its utilization is also varying according to its cross-sections. Due to its larger cross-section, Blooms are used as rolling material in the manufacturing process of rails, seamless pipes, etc. Billets are used in the manufacture of bars, rods, tubes, and pipes. Billets are generally usedfor end products with a smaller cross-section.
- Grades:
